The Cooperative Bank of Kenya partnership engagement

SPU and Co-operative Bank of Kenya Forge Strategic Partnership for 2026 Initiatives

St. Paul’s University (SPU) is proud to announce a high-level strategic engagement with a senior delegation from The Co-operative Bank of Kenya. Held in the Executive Boardroom at our main campus in Limuru, the meeting marked a significant step forward in fostering impactful industry-academia collaborations.

The university leadership, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Esther Mombo, hosted the bank’s representatives to discuss mutual areas of interest, shared values, and future-focused community and academic initiatives.

Driving Impact Together

The discussions brought together key members of the SPU management team to ensure a holistic approach to the partnership. In attendance were:

  • Prof. Abraham Waithima – Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs
  • Dr. Mwirigi Kiula – Deputy Vice Chancellor, Finance & Administration
  • Dr. Peter Karugu – Finance Manager
  • Mr. Michael Mungai – Head of Corporate Affairs Department

Key Areas of Collaboration

The high-level talks centered on several landmark events scheduled for later this year, highlighting Co-operative Bank’s commitment to supporting education and community development.

  • The SPU Elimu Bora Run 2026: Co-operative Bank is expected to come on board as the Anchor Sponsor for this year's flagship marathon. The event raises vital funds to support bright but financially disadvantaged students, aligning perfectly with the bank’s strong track record of social responsibility.
  • East African Communication Association (EACA) Conference: The two institutions explored partnership opportunities for the upcoming EACA Conference. Hosted by SPU’s School of Communication and Computer Studies (SCCS), the prestigious regional event will take place from August 26th to 28th, 2026.
  • Future Initiatives: Beyond the immediate events, the leadership laid the groundwork for long-term collaborations, identifying future university projects and financial literacy programs where Co-operative Bank can offer strategic support.

"Strategic partnerships with premier financial institutions like Co-operative Bank allow us to amplify our impact, both academically and within the community. We are excited about what the future holds for this collaboration." — SPU Management

By aligning corporate social investment with academic excellence, St. Paul’s University and Co-operative Bank are set to create transformative opportunities for students and the wider East African community.
