SPU SCHOLARSHIP

Empowering Servants of Humanity

At St. Paul’s University, we believe that education is a powerful tool for social transformation and a fundamental right for those called to serve. As a premier Christian ecumenical institution, our mission is to provide high-quality training that is not only academically rigorous but also grounded in Christian values. However, we recognize that for many bright and dedicated students, the path to higher education is often obstructed by financial barriers.

Our scholarship programs are more than just financial aid; they are a strategic investment in the future of the Church and society. By alleviating the burden of tuition, we enable our students to focus entirely on their spiritual, intellectual, and professional growth. Whether we are supporting a future theologian through the EMW, an aspiring peacebuilder via the ICMR, or a talented athlete on our sports fields, our goal remains the same: to produce "Servants of God and Humanity" who are equipped to lead with integrity. These initiatives reflect our commitment to equity, ensuring that gifted individuals from all walks of life - regardless of their economic background - can access the world-class education SPU offers.

Through strategic partnerships and university-led initiatives, we are proud to offer a diverse range of scholarships that cater to different disciplines and needs.

The Elder Gene Hyun Memorial Scholarship

Driven by the mission of Dr. Jewel Hyun and the Matthew 28 Ministries, this scholarship has become a beacon of hope for the School of Theology. It honors the late Elder Chul Woo “Gene” Hyun, a man whose life was defined by faith and service.

Objective:

To identify and mentor "Disciple-Makers"—students who will graduate not just with a degree, but with a mission to transform the African church.

The Impact:

This scholarship covers significant tuition costs for students who maintain a high GPA and demonstrate active involvement in Christian ministry. The recent public lecture by Dr. Hyun reminded our community that theological education is the bedrock of a healthy society.

Application Procedure & Transparency

To ensure fairness and transparency, all applications undergo a rigorous vetting process by the University Scholarship Committee.

Phase 1: Collect the official "Financial Aid Application Form" from the Dean of Students Office or the respective Faculty Dean.

Phase 2: Submit a formal "Statement of Need" alongside your academic transcripts and a recommendation letter from a recognized religious or community leader.

Phase 3: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview to assess their alignment with the university’s core values.

University scholarships are provided each academic year to assist academically-deserving and needy students. Completed application forms should reach the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs soonest possible.

The Elimu Bora Initiative: Building a Sustainable Future

The cornerstone of our current financial aid strategy is the Elimu Bora Endowment Fund. We recognize that while annual scholarships are vital, a permanent fund ensures that SPU can support needy students for generations to come.

The Elimu Bora Walk: Earlier this year, the SPU community, led by the University Management, took to the streets of Limuru for a 13km walk. This event served as a powerful sensitization campaign, successfully raising awareness and initial funds for the Endowment.

The Elimu Bora: Building on the momentum of the walk, we are excited to announce the Elimu Bora Run scheduled for June. This event invites corporate partners, alumni, and the general public to participate in a high-energy fundraiser.

The goal remains clear: to ensure no student is forced to defer their studies due to a lack of tuition fees.
