The thought of retirement often sends chills down the spines of many especially when approaching sunset years. St. Paul's University is a model institution with regards to employees' welfare during and beyond their productive years. Members of staff are enrolled to a pension scheme that enables them to save for their
retirement through monthly remittances. On Wednesday, 19th June 2024 members of staff attended the Annual General Meeting for the St. Paul's University Pension Scheme that was held physically at the Main campus in Limuru, with the virtual audience joining from the satellite campuses – Nairobi and Nakuru.
In line with the university’s culture, the meeting kicked off at 1.00 pm with a word of prayer. Thereafter, members were treated to a sumptuous meal that paved way for the day’s deliberations. Rev. Truphie Kwaka-Sumba, the Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration made introductory remarks, highlighting the essence of the scheme, importance of saving and transitions in leadership.
Led by the newly appointed scheme's trustees Chairperson, the Very Rev. Canon Geoffrey Mungai who doubles up as a member of the University Council, members were updated on the schemes financial position, investments and prevailing economic conditions that would affect their returns on investments like the inflation rates, by the Fund Managers and Pension Scheme Administrators. They were also enlightened on good financial practices at individual level. The meeting would not come to an end without election of new members of the trustees body since the term for the office holders had come to an end. Through the secret ballot and online casting of votes by members joining virtually concurrently, members elected new trustee representatives among them. Congratulations to Dr. Julius Kahuthia, Dr. Lissy Mutua and Ms Peris Kiarii on your election. The newly elected members would join their counterparts: The Very Rev. Canon Geoffrey Mungai – Chairperson and Member of the university Council, Canon Chris Kinyanjui Kamau - Member of the university Council, Rev. Truphosa Kwaka-Sumba – Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration and Member of the university Council, and Mrs. Lucy. Gikeri – Human Resource Manager. We wish then the best during their tenure.
