Staff and Students in the School of Health Sciences Gain Insight on Opportunities for Nursing Abroad

The Nursing profession has in the recent past gained popularity among high school leavers, employers and community based organizations both locally and abroad. In spite of this, stakeholders are still oblivious of the many opportunities that come with the coveted profession, with a majority limiting the profession to

merely taking care of patients. This perception among students and staff in the School of health Sciences during a consultative forum that took place on Wednesday 12th February themed: "Opportunities for Nursing Programmes". The training was facilitated by Springboard Consulting Agency, an Agency contracted by the German Government to source for Nursing students from institutions of higher learning and place them in Hospitals in Germany. St. Paul’s university’s long-standing reputation in successfully rolling out partnerships with institutions abroad compelled the agency to opt for the institution. The beauty about this working relationship is that students will bear minimum expenses! They are will only be required to have a passport, receive the necessary vaccines, and cater for their personal effects. During the enlightening session, students explored various opportunities in German hospitals.

During the visit, Prof. Abraham Waithima, the DVC Academic Affairs was taken through the wide range of opportunities to gain a deep understanding of what the agency had to offer before rolling the programme out. The agency will also sponsor three members of staff to assess the hospitals in Germany before proceeding with the engagements. This visit will pave way for further engagements including Memoranda of understanding and readily available jobs for Nursing students. We wish the nursing students all the best in their endeavours.
