Elder Gene Hyun Memorial Scholarships Award Ceremony

Collaboration with like-minded organizations has been instrumental in advancing St. Paul’s University’s motto: “We are Servants and Humanity” through numerous opportunities that have benefited students and staff alike. Academic scholarships, exchange programmes for students and staff, joint research and

conferences, networking forums, academic trips are some of the benefits accrued so far. On Thursday 11th September 2025 three students pursuing Theogical courses were privileged to be part of the Elder Gene Hyun Memorial Scholarship awardees, courtesy of Elder Gene Hyun Memorial Foundation, during a colourful ceremony presided over by Rev. Canon Prof. James Kombo. Established in loving memory of the late Elder Chul Woo “Gene” Hyun, the objective of the scholarship is to provide financial support for training outstanding Theological scholars and disciple-makers in Africa and beyond.

The three students awarded for outstanding performance are:

  1. John Selema Keteko who was awarded for attaining first class honors in the Bachelors programme and maintaining it while pursuing Masters in Theology (MTh) programme.
  2. James Muhia Wairimu for maintaining 1st Class honors in the Bachelor of Divinity (BD) programme.
  3. Winnie Cherotich Kirui for maintaining 1st Class honors in the Bachelor of Divinity (BD) programme.

Dr. Jewel Hyun, Founder and President, Matthew 28 Ministries Inc. shared her excitement seeing the legacy of Elder Chul Woo “Gene” Hyun becoming a reality. University staff led by top university’s management, students and other invited guests were present to witness the unveiling of the scholarship recipients.
