Student Council Elections and Voices That Matter
Want to make a difference? At SPU, student leadership isn’t just encouraged it’s expected. Every year, vibrant student council elections give students the power to choose their representatives. These elections are real-world leadership training grounds.
Candidates campaign with manifestos, engage in policy debates, and build coalitions all under the guidance of democratic values. Once elected, student leaders’ work with administration to improve campus life and advocate for their peers. Its leadership in action and many of today’s SPU alumni leaders started here.
Take the example of Gabriel, who served as Student Council President in 2021-2022. His administration spearheaded the establishment of a student mental health awareness week and launched a food bank initiative for needy students. “Being entrusted with student voices was life-changing,” he reflects. “It taught me how to listen, act, and lead with empathy.”
The leadership journey doesn’t stop at the elections. Student leaders are mentored throughout the year through leadership bootcamps, forums with the university management, and networking with alumni. It’s a training ground for future CEOs, community organizers, and public servants.
