Introduction

St. Paul’s has made another major milestone in providing training of Human Resource for Health We are glad to announce the commencement of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing intake in May 2019. This program is second after the Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery that commenced in September 2018. The long term goal in development of the Health Sciences is to pursue other major programs in Health Care.

Goals of the program

The goal of the BScN program is to prepare nurses at degree level who will have professional competence, the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to function effectively within a multidisciplinary health care team. The program will provide holistic training in nursing practice, administration, education, research and leadership.

Admission Requirements

  • A minimum KCSE grade of C+ plus
  • C+ (plus) in Biology or Biological Sciences
  • C+ (plus) in English or Kiswahili
  • C+ (plus) in Chemistry or Physical Science
  • C+ (plus) in Mathematics or physics

All candidates admitted into this programme will be indexed with the Nursing Council of Kenya as per the provided guidelines.

Duration

The BScN Programme shall take duration of four (4) academic years which will be divided into trimesters. During the trimesters, students shall cover prescribed course units and clinical placements as scheduled in a logical sequence in the curriculum and Master Rotation Plan.

2nd Nursing Leadership Conference | Building Capacity for Nursing and Midwifery Leadership in Africa

Introduction

St.Paul's Unversity in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Nursing Council of Kenya, Medical Benevolence Foundation (MBF) and Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) will host the second Nursing Leadership Conference on 13th and 14th June 2019 at the main campus in Limuru. The two day conference themed “Building Capacity for Nursing and Midwifery Leadership in Africa” Leading Change, Achieving Universal Health Coverage, Achieving Health; aims at empowering healthcare professionals like nurse and midwives to enable them play a leading role and maximize their contributions in tackling major health challenges and achieving Universal Health Coverage.

Conference Goals

  • To bring together nurses, midwives, experts and leaders impacting healthcare in Kenya and other regions of Africa to explore ways that institutions, organizations, and governments can unlock the leadership impetus for the acceleration and realization of healthy lives and wellbeing of women, children and adolescents as per SDG 3.
  • To empower nurses and midwives to take strategic leadership roles in tackling current health challenges, formulating healthcare and nursing policies as well as identifying opportunities for advocacy at local, regional, national and international levels in support of Universal Health Coverage, the Beyond Zero and Nursing Now Campaigns.
  • To enhance research capacity and evidence based nursing practice

Introduction

The demand for skilled communicators exceeds the supply of trained professionals. The Master’s programme, therefore, aims to produce communication professionals who are proficient and able to meet societal and professional demands.

Goals of the Programme

The goals of the programme are to:

  • Prepare students for leadership and service in communication-related functions in agencies, non-governmental and corporate organizations, and other institutions.
  • Provide advanced academic training that broadens academic knowledge, research and analytical skills in communication.
  • Offer learning environments that prepare potential thinkers, trainers, researchers and policy designers in the area of communication.

Admission Requirements

i) B.A. / BSc. in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Film Studies, Public Relations, Literature or any relevant social science field with at least second class honours (upper division) from an accredited University.

ii) A bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least second class (lower division) from a recognized University, with two years working experience.

iii) Applicants who have undertaken their undergraduate work in another language, other than English, will be required to produce proof of English Language proficiency.
