On Tuesday 28th June, St. Paul's University (SPU) was privileged to host the first Africa for SDG's Fellows Awards ceremony that brought together participants in the Education for Sustainable
Development (ESD) from seven cohorts who competed in coming up with innovations that would address needs in their communities.The well attended event was graced by eminent persons from the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI), UNESCO, NACOSTI, leading universities, high schools, primary schools and an online audience of the initiative's partners. The guest speaker was Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, a volunteerism pioneer and former Governor of Makueni County. While making his remarks, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana encouraged the audience to engage in volunteerism as this would give them an edge over their peers while pursuing their careers. He further stated that the youth have the potential to take this country to the desired destination, all they need space for intentional mentorship and platforms to put their craft into practice. He also lauded SPU for setting the pace & nurturing innovators who now have a stake at the global innovation arena.
The grand ceremony was coupled with the launch of SDGs Club-SPU chapter in the presence of members of the university's management led by Prof. Peter Ngure, the DVC AA and Rev. Truphie Sumba, the DVC F&A. Leno Omondi, the Founder and CEO of Eco Bana was preset durig the event to receive and award and show solidarity to his counterparts.
